Talk:About Minerval Initiation

Cult retort
Without getting too detailed, I don't see how the "renunciation" and "control of behavior" points in the cult retort have much accuracy to them. This may be more or less true for the Minerval, but that absence of stringency and discipline does not last long. --Pangloss 14:39, 5 January 2007 (EST)
- As for the renunciation, I'm not sure what you mean as I can't think of any time that we ask initiates to renounce "current or past beliefs, associations, activities, or lifestyle." As for control of behavior, the discipline is self-imposed. We do not police people's application of their oaths nor do we even interpret their oaths for them. However I'd like to discuss in person so that we can get into the details. --Fr. HydraLVX 14:51, 5 January 2007 (EST)
- I think the thing that rubs me the wrong way about the cult section is that it seems to go to great lengths to diminish the seriousness of commitment that initiation into the Order demands. None of the other sections serve as an adequate counterpoint to that diminishment. It's important that readers understand that it's inimical to our ethos for the Order to try to brainwash and enslave them, but not at the expense of understanding that the path of initiation is one of service and dedication and is intended to affect serious change in the individual. --Pangloss 16:41, 30 August 2007 (EDT)
- You know, now that I have thought about it for a few minutes, it occurs to me that indeed there is more control of behavior from the 6th degree on, as described in the Constitution but not including vows of poverty (which I understand are difficult to accomplish as designed given laws in the US). However that is a big step and of course a step that most are not expected to ever take. --Fr. HydraLVX 15:57, 5 January 2007 (EST)
I think the LJ section is out of place and should be moved into a "how do I find out about current local events" section. The Amicus Templi section should go under that, as well. --Pangloss 16:41, 30 August 2007 (EDT)
