One June 1, 2007 ev we embarked on three major projects: painting the interior of the temple, setting up a new veil support structure using cables, and cataloging our library. The photos below show the progress of these.

Painting project

The painting and veil structure we had originally intended to complete in time for Mass on Sunday, but this was overly ambitious. We completed all major work by Sunday evening, with a few smaller tasks left to be done later in the week.

Tear down was done by Sr. Aletheia Mnemonicas, Fr. Samekh ben Shahar, D.T., and K.L.

Lesson for today: never do this with a sprayer again. (We needed it primarily for the curtains.)

Today's cast of heroes were Fr. Pangloss & D.T. (who endured the worst part of the work), K.L. (who was sick), Sr. B.W., Fr. Samekh ben Shahar, Br. J!, Sr. Aletheia Mnemonicas, Fr. Andropos Troy, and Fr. NThLMKMNRG. We overcame heat, allergies, illness, exhaustion, stress, lack of sufficient preparation, and pink fog. It was an amazing challenge and everyone pulled together. We are going to have to cancel mass because there is still too much work to do. On the plus side: it looks beautiful.

To advance—that means Work. Patient, exhausting, thankless, often bewildering Work. Dear sister, if you would but Work! Work blindly, foolishly, misguidedly, it doesn't matter in the end: Work in itself has absolute virtue.

Everything is basically done. We have some miscellaneous things to clean up, and the room divider drape needs to be put up. Other than that we are done. This marks the completion of our interior painting goal as well as our goal to create a new veil structure using cables (see Goals for more). This was a technique we learned from 418 Lodge and you can see pictures of it below. It is much more stable and quiet than the copper tube structure we had set up before. In addition to accomplishing these things, we also took the opportunity to spend some quality scrubbing time with walls and floor space that we don't often see.

Many people came to help today, including D.T., Sr. Isabella, Fr. Theapraxis, Br. Tony (who fed us pizza and blackberry soda!), Br. J!, Sr. B.W., Sr. Aletheia Mnemonicas, Fr. IOI, Fr. Samekh ben Shahar, Sr. L.M., and Fr. NThLMKMNRG.

The painting is done, and Fr. Arun has hung some new banners, and we've done a bit of touch-up painting and added gold trim around the doorways. Here is a recent video showing the temple room as it looks now:
